Here’s what you can do about a tired look!

We all suffer from it from time to time; a tired look. But what if your reflection is not balanced with how you feel? Of course it starts with a healthy lifestyle and good skin care, but this is not always enough. Maybe you suffer from dark circles and bags under your eyes? Or are you annoyed by drooping eyebrows? Fortunately, these can be addressed with relatively simple treatments.

What makes you look tired?

The aging process is partly genetic, but external factors such as alcohol, smoking and UV radiation also play a role. As the skeleton shrinks and the fat around the eyes disappears, the face looks tired more quickly. In addition to puffiness and dark circles showing more easily, eyelids can appear heavier and fine wrinkles and lines appear on the face. Also, the skin around the eyebrows slackens and muscles pull the eyebrows downward creating a tired look.

What can you do about it?

Unfortunately, we cannot stop facial aging, but we can slow it down and treat it. A healthy lifestyle is half the battle, and combined with regular visits to the skin therapist and cosmetic doctor for a laser-, peeling or injectable treatment, you will be the most beautiful version of yourself at any age. For example, an injectable treatment with the body’s own substance hyaluronic acid not only improves the shape of your face, but also provides soft contours and a fresh appearance.

Treating dark circles and puffiness

With a rested appearance comes a fresh eye look. Deep tear ducts, bags and dark circles under the eyes can unfortunately create a tired appearance. There are different types of puffiness and in order to determine the right treatment, it is very important to first identify the correct cause. Through our expertise, we can distinguish the anatomical cause of the puffiness and therefore deploy a specific treatment.

Puffiness due to loss of volume (deep tear trough)

The tear ducts are the trenches that run from the inner corners of the eyes toward the cheeks. Because the skeleton shrinks as you age, volume loss can occur, and in addition, the skin under your eyes becomes less elastic with age. A deeper tear duct may also be naturally present at a younger age. The loss of volume often causes puffiness and dark circles under the eyes. Fortunately, volume loss can be filled very nicely with a tear duct treatment, filling the tear duct and providing support under the eyelid. The treatment always uses an ultra-thin cannula with fillers made from hyularonic acid, ensuring a quick recovery!

Fatty bags

One of the main causes of puffiness is aging. There are several fat compartments of the lower eyelid, which serves to protect the eyeball and the eye socket. As we age, the muscle tissue around the eyes weakens, so the eye muscle can no longer push the fat back properly. As a result, fat accumulates under the eyes, causing puffiness. Depending on the severity of the “wall of fat,” filler treatment can be used or it can be surgically removed through lower eyelid surgery. A lower eyelid correction involves removing excess skin and fat, but in practice we find that the problem can often be solved with fillers. With a filler treatment for the “fat wall,” the transition from the wall (also known as the valley) to the cheek is filled, allowing it to continue in a smooth line, making the wall no longer visible.

Moisture bags

It is often thought that any bag can be treated through a filler treatment, However, it is not the case. Moisture in the bags is even a contraindication to using fillers, because a filler attracts moisture, this can only worsen as a result. It is therefore very important to make the right distinction. The so-called “moisture wall” is often caused by reduced pumping function of the eye muscle. The eye muscle is normally supposed to pump out the fluid, and when the fluid stays, the muscle may not work as well and the lymphatic pathways cannot drain the fluid properly. So you can suffer from a fluid wall in both young age and older age. In this case, treatment with a skin therapist for lymphatic drainage may be a solution. We also recommend that people stop sleeping on their stomachs and lie on their backs. This gives the fluid less chance to settle under your eyes. Botox treatments around the eyes can also worsen the fluid.

Dark circles

If you are only dealing with dark skin around the eyes and do not suffer from a deep tear duct, using the right skincare in combination with skin therapy can be a solution. Laser treatments and/or microneedling tighten the skin, making it less “glassy,” thereby reducing the appearance of dark circles. As we age, our collagen decreases, causing skin to become saggy and thinner. With fractional laser treatment, you can slow down this process by stimulating the tiny blood vessels to produce connective tissue and collagen. This makes for healthier and thicker skin! With microneedling combined with heat (RF), tips of ultra-thin needles are inserted into the skin. Never fear! You won’t feel any pain, just the heat. The healing process of these tiny wounds provides collagen production, while the heat (RF) provides subcutaneous tightening and stimulates collagen production. This combination treatment is suitable for all skin types and often clients choose to treat the entire face, neck and décolleté right away. In addition, the use of proper skin care around the eyes is of enormous importance here. Especially the use of an antioxidant can make a huge difference, for example, the  AOX Eye Gel from SkinCeuticals.

Suffering from drooping eyebrows

Do you suffer from a tired look due to drooping eyebrows? Unfortunately, drooping eyebrows often cause a tired look and, in addition, you may suffer from an oppressive feeling on your eyes. Sagging skin causes the frown muscle to pull the eyebrows down, making you look tired. When it comes to a brow elevator, many people think of a surgical procedure, but nothing could be further from the truth! An eyebrow lift through botox (and sometimes in combination with fillers) may in fact be the perfect solution. An injection with botulinetoxine relaxes the muscles, making you look fresh and youthful almost immediately. The treatment takes a few minutes and is virtually painless. In some cases, botox cannot be used because it can cause the eyebrows to look even lower. In that case, a filler treatment is performed. This involves using fillers to give support to the eyebrow by filling the hollow from the forehead to the temple. Combine it with a laser treatment to tighten the skin under the eyes or with a peel for hydration against fine lines.

A fresh eye look starts at home

Protecting your skin from outside influences keeps it in top condition longer. Therefore, invest in skin care products with active ingredients in high percentages (cosmeceuticals), like Bio Logica Hyalu serum which slows the aging process and provides firm skin under the eyes. The product contains hyaluronic acid (hydrating and anti-aging), oligopeptides (stimulates collagen) and caffeine (antioxidant). Also the SkinCeuticals AOX Eye Gel can be used perfectly for this purpose, as it stimulates the production of collagen and corrects fine lines. In addition, protect your skin from the sun every day with the SkinCeuticals Mineral UV Eye Defense, even when it’s raining.
