Almost everyone gets brown spots over the years, both men and women. These pigment spots occur mainly on the face, hands, décolleté and arms. These spots are also called hyperpigmentation or lentigo solaris. Pigmentation can occur when the skin is not properly protected. So by exposure to sunlight, medication, or PIP (Post Inflammatory Pigmentation), as happens more often in skin types 4 and 5. If you are pregnant, the spots can become much more severe. This is also called pregnancy mask or melasma.
Pigmentation spots can be treated in different ways at the Van Rosmalen Kliniek. Peelings can be very effective, but a pigmentation spot treatment with laser or the cryopen, an instrument that can freeze the spot to the millimeter, can also. We also have a wide range of skin-care cosmeceuticals. These products have a high concentration of active ingredients that will lighten the pigment spots. You can simply use these at home. We are happy to advise you on this. Depending on the type of pigmentation, your skin type and skin tone is determined which treatment is most suitable for you. A combination treatment can also be applied for optimal results.
It is important to allow your skin to rest after treatment. Avoid peeling creams and scrub creams for the first period, avoid bright sun, massages at the beautician and other beauty treatments. You will receive detailed instructions from our skin therapists on what to do and what not to do. They can also advise you on the skin care products we use and sell at the clinic.
Pigmentation spots will fade quickly; your skin will start to look brighter again. Of course, new spots may appear over time. That’s why we always recommend you come back for maintenance treatments.
Through a peel used to fade pigment spots, the skin is exfoliated, shedding superficial pigment. This smoothes the skin and restores its fresh appearance. In addition, an anti-pigmentation peel stimulates cell division in the skin. In this process, new healthy cells are created, creating a positive effect in the skin. There are also peels that contain ingredients to inhibit new pigment production, preventing most pigmentation.
Almost everyone gets brown spots over the years, both men and women. These pigment spots occur mainly on the face, hands, décolleté and arms. These spots are also called hyperpigmentation or lentigo solaris. If you find the pigmentation spots bothersome, you may choose to have them treated through peeling and/or other skin treatments.
Depending on the type of peel and the condition the skin is in, the treatment to fade pigment spots may be experienced as sensitive. For example, the skin may feel tingly, warm or slightly burning. This sensation will gradually diminish.
Depending on the treatment plan drawn up according to your wishes and needs, a peel to fade pigment spots takes about 45 to 60 minutes.
How many more treatments you need depends on your skin condition and the extent of the pigmentation. Our specialists will inform you about the treatments that are best for you and will produce the most effect. In fact, a peel alone may not be enough. To get the best results, you can also choose to combine a peeling with laser treatments, which will tackle the pigmentation spots even more strongly and therefore fade more.
When you will begin to see results depends on your skin condition and the extent of the pigmentation spots. For example, superficial pigmentation spots are easier to treat and you will see a significant reduction. To achieve an optimal treatment result, we recommend multiple treatments. Of course this takes more time, but the result will be amazing. Besides the treatments, it is also very important that you use the right skincare products at home, which contain ingredients to be able to inhibit the pigment. This will help the process of fading pigment spots. For the right skincare use, you can always visit our clinic, where our specialists will give you appropriate advice.
After a peel to fade pigment spots, the skin may flake or peel. This depends on the intensity of the peeling. Should a more intense peel be performed, the skin may begin to peel on the 2nd or 3rd day after treatment. This may remain visible for up to about 7 days and will disappear after that. In some cases, the “downtime” may last longer than 7 days. This is due to the type and depth of the peel. Prior to treatment, it is good to prepare the skin. Flaking and peeling is thereby reduced or can even be prevented. After treatment, it is good to keep the skin moisturized. Using the right skincare products will help the recovery process.
After the treatment, the skin may become red and take on a tingling sensation. After about 2 to 3 hours this will subside and there will be almost no noticeable effects. It is possible that the skin peels on day 3 or 4 after treatment. Usually this goes away after about 7 days. The skin may still be a bit drier in structure, but with good care in the form of hydration, the skin will recover faster.
The peel to fade pigmentation spots can be combined with other types of peels, as well as with different treatment techniques, such as IPL laser treatment or microneedling treatment. Depending on the treatment goal and indication, the skin therapist will advise on possible combination treatments to achieve the best result. This is reflected in our unique concept the Confidence Booster® GLOW, in which, on the basis of a personal treatment plan, the long term is taken into account.
