Couperose The problem

Redness in the face can have several causes. Rosacea is one of them, but another common cause is couperose. Sometimes it is hereditary, in addition it can be aggravated by temperature changes, sun, stress, alcohol and medication. It can develop at a young age and usually worsens over the years. Couperose is most common on the nose, cheeks and chin, but also on the neck and décolletage.

Couperose treatment - Harmony Laser The treatment

The best way to treat couperose is with the Harmony laser. This is a very comprehensive and advanced system with various treatment options. It achieves perfect results. The red vessels absorb the light, a combination of laser and IPL, Intense Pulsed Light. A nice side effect is that the skin also tightens through heating, as the treatment stimulates collagen production. Another advantage of this treatment compared to burning the vessels closed (coagulation), is that the risk of pigmentation disorders is much smaller.

The combination of IPL and the laser allows us to treat all forms of couperose, including the large red vessels on the sides of the nose and chin. To get rid of couperose as quickly as possible, your skin must have a natural color. Therefore, you should not be tanned from the sun, tanning beds or self-tanning creams before the treatment. A full facial treatment takes about 30 minutes. If the neck and cleavage are also treated, it takes about 60 minutes. There is a cooling system in the laser, making the treatment tolerable. It feels as if a rubber band is being shot against the skin. There is a brief heat sensation, but that goes away immediately afterwards.

After the couperose treatment After the treatment

The skin may be red and warm to touch afterwards. Sometimes the skin also swells a little. This is all temporary. When removing couperose on the nostrils and cheeks, small scabs may appear. This is a normal process. Do not scratch it and wait until the scab falls off the face by itself. Immediately after the treatment, we can camouflage the red skin with Mineralogy mineral makeup. You may use your own camouflage products at home the next day.

The laser treatment must be repeated after 3-4 weeks. On average, 4-6 treatments are needed for the best results. Therefore, to maintain even skin, we recommend returning annually for a customized treatment.

Even skin with less redness The results

You will see results after just a few weeks, the redness is less and your skin is more even. After a number of treatments you often have a 70% improvement. Depending on the redness and the amount of vessels, we can recommend coming back for a maintenance treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does laser treatment to reduce couperose works?

The best way to treat couperose is with the Harmony XL platform. This is a very comprehensive and advanced system with various treatment options. By performing this treatment method, the proteins in the blood vessel will coagulate, causing the vessel to close or be cleared by the body later. A nice side effect is that the heating also tightens the skin, as the treatment stimulates collagen production. The combination of IPL and laser ensures that we can treat all forms of couperose, including the large red vessels on the sides of the nose and chin.

Why choose IPL/laser treatment to reduce couperose?

Redness in the face can have several causes. Sometimes it is hereditary; in addition, it can be aggravated by temperature changes, sun, stress, alcohol and medication. It can appear at an early age and usually worsens over the years. The most common places where redness flares up is mainly on the nose, cheeks and chin, but also on the neck and décolleté. Many people are irritated by this and want to do something about these unwanted red spots. An IPL/laser treatment to reduce couperose is perfect for this!

Is IPL/laser treatment to reduce couperose painful?

The feeling during an IPL method or laser treatment can be compared to shooting a rubber band against the skin. So it’s not particularly painful, but it can feel unpleasant for a while. In addition, some areas may be more sensitive, such as the area around the nose.

How long will the treatment take?

A full facial takes about 45 minutes. If the neck and cleavage are also treated, it takes about 60 to 75 minutes.

How many treatments do I need to make the desired result?

Laser treatment should be repeated after 3-4 weeks. On average, 4-6 treatments are required, depending on the extensiveness of the established indication. Therefore, to maintain even skin, we recommend returning annually for a customized treatment.

How long does it take to see results?

On average, 4-6 treatments are needed to achieve the best results. However, the rosacea may return in a different place, but the skin will improve significantly in evenness.

Will my skin peel after laser treatment?

The skin may be red and warm to touch afterwards. Sometimes the skin also swells a little. This is all temporary. When removing couperose on the nostrils and cheeks, small scabs may appear. This is a normal process. Do not scratch it and wait until the scab falls off the face by itself. Immediately after the treatment, we can camouflage the red skin with Mineralogy mineral makeup. You may use your own camouflage products at home the next day.

Can I combine this treatment with another treatment?

Yes, this is definitely possible! If each skin zone is treated, multiple treatment methods can be applied. For example, if you only suffer from red vessels on the cheeks and nose, the other skin zones can be treated with a peeling, microneedling (RF) or the IPL method to tackle pigmentation. The combination treatments provide the best results. Our skin therapists will advise you about the best options.
