Acne The problem

Acne is a chronic inflammation of the sebaceous glands. These glands keep the epidermis oily. This is important to protect the skin from dehydration, pathogens, fungi and irritants. But if too much sebum is produced, the pores become clogged by an accumulation of dead skin cells, increasing the number of bacteria. This creates pimples, which are actually inflammations. Those inflammations, in turn, can cause scarring. In fair skin, this manifests as red spots and dots. In darker skin, dark pigment spots and dots often appear. Depending on the stage of acne, our specialists create a personalized treatment plan.

Acne treatment with a Peeling or Fractional Laser The treatment

If the acne is still active, the skin must first be soothed by means of a peel composed of various acids. The peeling lasts between 30 and 60 minutes and produces a mild tingling sensation on the skin. When the product is removed from the face, this sensation disappears immediately. For support, products are provided that you can apply at home. It is important to use these in order to get the best possible result.

For acne scars we also use a peeling. Depending on the type of treatment, this takes 30 to 60 minutes and can be experienced as tingling or burning. These treatments are intensive because we want to stimulate the skin properly. With this we promote the production of collagen. Collagen is responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin. It also plays a major role in the renewal process of the skin, making scars less visible or even disappear.

In addition, there are other options. For example, our anti-aging peels can also have a good effect. This improves skin texture, refines pores and reduces fine lines, wrinkles or scars caused by acne. For stubborn acne or very damaged skin, treatment with the fractional laser can give amazing results. This treatment is also intensive: it feels like little pricks on the skin.

After the acne treatment After the treatment

Immediately after peeling against active acne, the skin is red and feels warm and tight. The next morning, the redness is mostly gone. Mild scaling may occur, which may persist for an average of three days. By keeping the skin well hydrated, it will recover more quickly.

Exfoliation to treat acne scars can also cause the skin to feel warm and tight. The skin needs a few days to recover, but by using the right products, the “down time” is minimal. It is important not to scratch flakes or small scabs. It should come off on its own. n.

After anti-aging treatments, there may be a stinging or burning sensation, and then a tight feeling. Two days after peeling, the tight feeling subsides and the skin starts to flake. The color can vary, from white flakes to brown. This lasts about 2 to 5 days.

After fractional laser treatment, the skin may feel very warm. Cooling may provide relief. The skin becomes red, which lasts for at least 48 hours. This is followed by mild flaking that lasts about 3 to 4 days.

A calm and even skin The result

The skin is better able to exfoliate and the peels dissolve sebum. This makes the skin calmer, reducing current inflammation and preventing new inflammation. This greatly reduces the risk of permanent damage. The overall condition of the skin improves, making it more even.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does exfoliation work?

If the acne is still active, it is important to extinguish the inflammation by using a peel consisting of various acids. With this, the skin can be soothed. To complement this, it is often necessary to perform a deep cleansing. The treatments are intensive because we promote the production of new healthy skin cells and collagen. Collagen also plays a major role in the renewal process of the skin, making scars less visible or even disappearing completely, depending on the depth of the scar.

When do I qualify to reduce acne (scars)?

Acne is a condition of the sebaceous gland follicles, in which there is chronic inflammation of the sebaceous glands. The androgen hormone plays a major role in its development. The severity of acne is determined by these 4 factors:

  • Increase in sebum production;
  • Acnes (acne bacteria);
  • Abnormal exfoliation of skin cells in the sebaceous gland duct;
  • Immune and inflammatory reactions.

The accumulation of sebum and follicular keratinocytes in the sebaceous gland duct results in the formation of a microcomedo, the precursor of all acne lesions. The microcomedo enlarges as sebum secretion is blocked and the follicle fills with sebum, bacteria, inflammatory cells and shed skin cells. If the drainage passage of the follicle is blocked, inflammation can occur. Following the inflammation, scarring may be caused. The scars can be seen as red and brown spots or even deeper in the skin. The increase in sebum production is also an important factor in the development of acne. This increase is mainly due to a reaction to androgenic hormones. When too much sebum secretes, it can cause accumulation and the pores become clogged.

Is a peel to reduce acne (scars) painful?

Depending on the concentration and type of peel, it may feel mildly prickly. In some cases, it may also cause an itching and mild burning sensation. If the peel is removed from the skin, this sensation will subside immediately or gradually.

How long does a peeling take to reduce acne (scars)?
Depending on which peel is used, treatment to reduce acne (scars) takes about 30 to 60 minutes. Should a combination treatment be chosen with other treatment methods, such as microneedling or microneedling with radiofrequency, the treatment may take slightly longer.
How many peeling treatments do I need to reduce my acne (scars)?

How many treatments you need depends on the type of scar, but also on the condition of the skin. Our skin therapists will inform you extensively about which peelings are best for you and can deliver the optimal effect. For the most beautiful and best results, we often recommend combination treatments using our unique concept; the Confidence Booster® GLOW.

How long does it take to see results in reducing acne (scars)?

Not every skin is the same; every skin can react differently to treatments. In addition, the duration of the visible effect also depends on the type of scar that has been treated. Consider depth or size. Extensive active acne and deep scars will require a longer treatment course.

Will my skin peel after peeling for acne (scars)?

Immediately after the peel to remedy active acne, some facial redness may occur, which lasts for about two to three hours and then subsides completely. If a medium-depth peel is performed, the skin may become a bit drier and scabs and/or flakes may appear. This often begins on the 2nd or 3rd day after undergoing treatment. Keeping the skin well moisturized will speed up recovery.

Is my skin dry after peeling for acne (scars)?

The skin may feel somewhat dry after a peel to treat acne (scars). How dry the skin is depends greatly on the type of peel used during the treatment. The purpose of this treatment is to work out the dirt trapped in the skin; extinguish inflammation and prevent the development of new inflammation, thus significantly improving the skin condition. The dry feeling of the skin may persist for several days. The attending skin therapist will clearly state after each treatment what products should be used to promote skin recovery.

How long will it take for me to be presentable again after an acne (scarring) peel?

Depending on the extent of the acne and/or scarring and the type of peeling performed, the skin may become somewhat red. This usually subsides after about two to three hours. If a medium-depth peel was performed, some scaling may occur on day 2 or 3 after treatment. Take good care of your skin with the products recommended by the skin therapist to promote recovery.

Can I combine this treatment with multiple treatments?

You certainly can! Once the active acne has been reduced and the residual acne remains, an IPL laser treatment can be chosen to reduce or even eliminate the red or brown spots on the face altogether. In addition to laser treatment, microneedling treatment may also be used. Perhaps also in combination with radio waves (RF), which by means of intense heat stimulates the collagen so that scars fade. There can be treated per skin area, depending on the different needs of the skin.
