The difference between cosmeceuticals and cosmetics

At our clinic, we work with only the highest quality skin care products, also known as cosmeceuticals. But what exactly is that? And what is the difference with normal cosmetic products? These are questions we frequently get from clients!

What does your skincare routine do for your skin?

Take a look at your current skincare products, if you are not already using cosmeceutials. Can you read off what the exact percentages of active ingredients are? Have pigmentation spots and fine lines been reduced? Or did you just want a less sallow skin tone, but still haven’t succeeded? It’s nice to find out, what your products (that you use at home) have done for your skin other than provide comfort.

What are cosmeceuticals?

Cosmeceuticals are skincare products designed to enhance skin health, repair damage and improve skin condition. The products can address specific skin problems more effectively than most common cosmetics. This is because it contains high concentrations of active ingredients.

The difference between cosmeceuticals and cosmetics products

A cosmeceutical is in the middle of regular creams you can buy in stores/drugstores and prescription creams. Regular creams act mainly on the top layer of the skin and provide mostly comfort. In contrast, cosmeceuticals also work for the deeper skin layers and can therefore address specific skin problems more effectively. Moreover, they are science-based skin care products.

Why we work exclusively with cosmeceuticals

At the Van Rosmalen Kliniek we select cosmeceuticals based on the combinations of ingredients and clinically proven results. Through the synergistic effect between cosmeceuticals and injectable / skin treatments, we work to significantly improve the skin.

All the differences again at a glance:

Comfort creams

  • Smells nice because of large amount of perfume;
  • Low concentrations of active ingredients;
  • Available in a drugstore, beauty salon or cosmetics store;
  • Works superficially on the skin.

Cosmeceuticals

  • Containing little or no perfume. This includes parabens and preservatives;
  • High concentrations of active ingredients;
  • Available in a clinic/practice where skin therapists and/or doctors work;
  • Visible skin improvement;
  • Acts on the deeper layers of skin.
