Along with the eyes, your mouth is an important eye-catcher. The shape of your lips is genetic and as you age, your lips lose volume. A lip filler treatment can therefore offer a solution for various reasons, such as correcting asymmetry, restoring or adding volume, counteracting lines above the lip or if you want a nicer proportion of the lips. Despite the fact that taking lip fillers is a common treatment, we have noticed a number of lip filler myths over the years. We’ve listed the 5 biggest myths for you!
Many people think that lip filler treatment is only used on young women to enlarge their lips. But these are myths! As described in the introduction, lip fillers are used for different purposes:
The best known, of course, is to fill the lips for more volume. By paying close attention to the natural shape of your lips and their contours, the proportions of your lips remain in proportion. This preserves the natural appearance. Men also undergo this treatment! They are often not looking for full lips, but would like to do something about lips that are too thin or too narrow. This quickly gives a severe expression to the face and can be remedied with a little filling.
Of course, it can also happen that you are not satisfied with the shape of your lips. For example, it sometimes happens that an upper or lower lip is much larger or smaller. You can use lip fillers when you want to correct asymmetry of the lip or when you want a nicer proportion of the lips.
The position of the jaw can make you feel dissatisfied or insecure about your appearance. An underbite or overbite has to do with the position of the jaw. Through injectables in the lips and chin, plus possibly botox in the chin or jaw, a beautiful result can be achieved. Here the goal is to give the silhouette of your face more symmetry, making the position of the jaw less noticeable.
Around the age of 40, the firmness in the lips slowly diminishes and you will notice that the lips feel a bit more saggy and dry. With the right filler treatment, the original volume can be restored, giving you back hydrated and firm lips.
As we age, wrinkles often appear around the mouth. This can lead to a gloomy appearance, where the lips fall away, smoker’s lines are formed and lipstick gets caught in the lines around the lips. We also often see this in combination with drooping corners of the mouth. By bringing back the volume in the right places, you create a fresh and natural look.
We often get the question, “but will everyone see that I’ve had my lips done?”. We can reassure you, because lip fillers can be very subtle and natural, if this is what you want. It can also happen that the desire is to obtain much more prominent lips with fillers! A good and experienced doctor will always discuss with you the wishes and possibilities. No matter what the goal is, lip fillers can be applied subtly at any level. The type of filler used, the amount, the time between treatments, and the location where the filler is placed in and around the lip will determine the final result. Because of this, the end result at Van Rosmalen Kliniek is always predictable!
Many people believe that when filling the lips, the effect remains permanent. However, these are fables, as hyaluronic acid-based fillers always have a temporary effect. In fact, permanent fillers have been banned since 2015. If the effect of a filler treatment with hyaluronic acid does not prove to be satisfactory after all, it is possible to have the temporary filler removed by treatment with hyalase. This is a very safe agent that allows the filler to dissolve. However, we will never use too much lip filler at one time, preserving the natural result.
Many people are afraid that their lips will never return to their original shape after a filler treatment. These are myths! As mentioned above, fillers are developed from the natural substance hyaluronic acid and will slowly be broken down naturally by the body. When the filler is completely broken down, your lips will resume their own shape. Doctor Anna explains it for you in this video.
