The skincare routine of skin therapist Silvia

Have you always wanted to know what products our skin therapist Silvia uses to care for her own skin? In this interview, she shares the secrets of her skincare routine. Silvia has pigment-sensitive skin, so she knows better than anyone how to tackle pigmentation and melasma, and how to make sure your skin stays as even as possible. She also gives you some golden tips for radiant skin and slowing down the aging process!

What does your skincare routine look like in the morning?

“I start in the morning with SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF, a unique antioxidant serum. With its high concentration of vitamin C, ferulic acid and phloretin, this serum provides increased firmness and an even complexion. I naturally include my neck and décolleté in my skincare routine; this skin needs protection and care, too!”

After that, I use the SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 moisturizer. This serum contains hyaluronic acid and gives a huge hydration boost. Next, I apply my day cream. For this, I use Mela Lightening Cream from Theraderm. The Mela Lightening Cream is specially designed for pigment-sensitive skin and melasma. This cream; based on collagen, hyaluronic acid, tranexamic acid and three high-quality types of vitamin C, suppresses the production of new pigment and lightens pigment spots.”

Three types ofVitamine C: protect the skin from external influences.
Tranexamic acid: counteracts the production of pigment.
Hyaluronic acid: intensively hydrates the skin.
Collagen: ensures elasticity in the skin. In the Confidence Booster GLOW treatments, these ingredients are also used in higher concentrations. Thus, we achieve good results in the short term on pigmentation and anti-aging.

“I always finish my morning routine with the Dermaceutic Tinted Sun Ceutic 50 and a mineral powder. The Tinted Sun Ceutic is an SPF 50, which serves as protection against UV rays. When used in combination with a strong antioxidant, it makes your skin age seven times slower. A golden duo!”

“The Mineralogie Compact SPF Foundation is a 100% mineral powder. It contains no irritants, parabens or talc; which clogs the skin. In addition to smoothing the skin, this sheer product contains the Mineralogie Foundation SPF 30 for extra protection against UV rays.”

Do you use these products every day, or do you ever deviate from your skincare routine?

“I am very faithful to my skincare routine. As a skin therapist, I know how important proper skin care is, so I use these products every day. During the season I change some products, as my skin has different needs then and in the winter I want to target my pigment even deeper. Before I used these products, I suffered from melasma much more. I can really see that the longer I use the products, the better my skin gets!”

Why do these particular skincare products work well for your skin?

“Of course, there are so many skincare products on the market that it can be difficult to know which ones really work well. As a skin therapist, I work with cosmeceuticals at the Van Rosmalen Clinic. Cosmeceuticals fall under the category of products with active ingredients that have been scientifically tested and actually improve or stimulate skin functions. Cosmeceuticals may only be sold under the supervision of doctors and/or skin therapists.”

With cosmeceuticals, you’re not just taking care of your skin, you’re actually treating it.’

“The home treatment with these cosmeceuticals is also a must in preparation for treatments. It ensures that the results of a skin treatment are held longer and also provides better protection for the skin. The right skincare routine can therefore make a huge difference to the quality of the skin.”

And what is your skincare routine in the evening?

“In the evening, I first remove my makeup with SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser. Then I dry my skin and use SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser about three times a week. This contains 8% glycolic acid: this is an exfoliant that removes dead skin cells from the skin and can tackle fine lines and superficial pigment. By using an exfoliant, the next step of your skincare routine can be better absorbed by the skin and you will see a beautiful glow every day.”

“As a night cream, I use Dermaceutic Light Ceutic, which is a depigmenting night cream. It fades pigment spots and prevents the creation of new pigment. This has been my favorite for years!”

Then I look at my skin’s needs; is my skin dry? Then I use the SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 for hydration. If I notice that the pigment on my face is more present again, I grab SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense Serum instead. I finish my night routine with the A.G.E Eye Complex cream to take extra care of the eye area.”

“In the winter, I treat my pigment even more with the Dermaceutic Mela Cream. This is a depigmenting night cream. In the summer we do not recommend this product due to high UV radiation, but during the winter this is a strong cure for pigmentation and melasma which is similar to hydroquinone. The Mela Cream gives no long-term adverse side effects.”

Do you have a golden tip for radiant skin?

“My golden tip for radiant skin is SkinCeuticals Glycolic Renewal Cleanser. This cleanser really gives you a beautiful glow; your skin glows after using this product!”

“In addition, I take vitamin C daily to protect my skin from the inside out. I also take collagen to work on maintaining the collagen in my skin. I personally use the collagen powder from Forever 39. It took some time (research shows an average of three to four months) before I started to see the difference, but I now notice that my skin and also my hair look visibly better.”

You are a skin therapist yourself. Which skin treatment do you prefer to undergo?

“I visit one of my colleagues at the Van Rosmalen Clinic once every six to eight weeks to have my own skin treated. To keep my skin even and firm, I get treated with the Confidence Booster GLOW Brightening. The GLOW Brightening is specifically aimed at reducing pigmentation and making the skin shine again. All GLOW treatments work anti-aging. This combination treatment combines among other things; laser treatments, various peels and a mask for optimal results and healthy skin.”

“I alternate the GLOW Brightening mainly in the winter with the GLOW Hydration. During this treatment, the moisture balance in my skin is restored by using microneedling and a very high concentration of hyaluronic acid, among other things. Thanks to this treatment, my skin is well hydrated and I work on fine lines and coarse pores.”
